Previous historical dates

1797 A British publisher issued «The Young Man's Valentine Writer». This how-to-book which contained scores of suggested sentimental verses for the young lover unable to compose his own.
1797-1800 England. Beginning of printing paper with sentimental verses (limited edition).
 
 
1800-1840 England. Paper Valentines exchange became to be popular. Assembled in factories, the Valentines were made with real lace and ribbons.
1847 USA. Beginning of production of the Valentine's Day embossed cards with ribbon.
1849 The English author, Leig Eric Shmidt wrote in the «Graham's American Monthly» that the Saint Valentine is now a national holiday.
1900 Flowers and chocolates are now a gifts for the Valentine's Day.
1950 Valentine's Day is more and more marketed.
1980 The diamond industry began to promote Valentine's Day. Jewelry is now a gift idea.
1990 Internet is a new way for creating and sending Valentine's Day greeting messages. A new tradition began.
